#OneOfMANY: Thoughts on Youth Services from Wilkes-Barre, PA
MANY is traveling all across the country, meeting with member organizations, talking about their programs, and identifying trends and issues that are happening in the youth services field across the U.S. We had the privilege of sitting down with Amanda Sivco and Tanya Olaviany – who work at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bridge (a program of member organization Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton) – about what drives them to continue their commitment to the work and to the community. This is what they had to say:
We, as a staff, feel that we are chipper and enthusiastic people - not just in Wilkes-Barre, PA but also in Williamsport, Stroudsburg, and Bloomsburg (just to name a few!) We continue to be committed to our work because we are a family serving families. We celebrate birthdays together, support in times of trouble, and so much more. We stay within our communities by having involvement with our colleges and universities in our areas, partner with companies and even have a program within our police departments. We help families in multiple ways and are resourceful in our abilities to fundraise and keep our program strong because we all know that children are being helped and served and we strive to continue mentoring in our communities.”
