National Foster Care Month Comes To A Close

As National Foster Care Month comes to a close, it is a great time to reflect on the progress we have made as a youth service community and to look to the future to anticipate the work that WILL need to be done. June marks National LGBT Pride Month, and in light of this, it is important to note that research has shown that LGBTQ youth are overrepresented in the foster care system – many having faced family rejection around their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. The Human Rights Campaign has created a wonderful and informative #FosterEquality campaign, which shares the stories of LGBTQ youth in foster care. These stories shine a light on the experience of LGBTQ youth in the foster care system and are important to read for added perspective.
